⏰ How to find time for your personal brand, when working a 9 to 5 job? 🤷‍♂️

Published about 1 month ago • 3 min read

Heyy Reader, Hope you're doing amazing. Last week has been crazy for me with work. Despite that I was able to work on my personal brand (create some content, post some and even jump on a few calls).

So I thought I would talk about how you could be doing the same, building your personal brand while having a 9 to 5 job.

Highlights for this week:
❇️ How to balance your 9-5 with your 5-9?

Finding time to build with your 9 to 5

When I say 9 to 5, I'm not only talking about being employeed by a company, but I'm also referring to your BUSINESS if you are a business owner.

Let's face it, being your own boss doesn't mean you don't answer to anyone. in fact you might have to answer to more people such as your clients, customers, team members, share holders, just to name a few.

So is it really practical to build your personal brand when working a 9 to 5?

Is there really enough time to do this?

How can we MAKE more time?

To answer this we need to take a few steps back...

  1. Question: Why do you want to build your personal brand? This answer is what you would always come back to when you ask yourself "Why am I doing this in the first place?". Because there will be tough days where you need some support. Having a strong purpose is essential.
Now that we have that addressed...
  2. What is it that takes up your time outside of your 9 to 5?
Most of us have Family, Health, Liesure as the top things that take up our time. Identify what it is for you.
In order to find more time we have to think about it a litttle diferently...
    It's about priorities.
  3. Question: "What am I giving more priority that I should in my life? Is it watching shows? Going out for parties? Hanging out with my friends every weekend?"

You might ask yourself "What do I need to sacrifice doing from my personal life, so that I can make more time to work on my personal brand stuff?"

The issue with this approach is the word "Sacrifice".

You don't need to sacrifice anything, because you are going to make a choice.

The difference in this approach is that you are in control of the story. You are not a victim to "Personal branding" lol

As if your life becomes SO SAD because you cant do all this fun stuff and need to think about posting on LinkedIn instead...

That isn't the best way to appraoch this.

So, ask yourself, "What is the one thing I could choose to not do, such as watching that extra movie on Netflix that I can watch another day, so that I can work on my personal brand stuff instead?"

Going through this exercise sincerely, will help you find atleast 2 extra hours per week to work on your personal brand.

FIND IT!

because Next week we will discuss what you can do in those 2 hours so that you don't have to work on it for the rest of the week.

🤖 Prompt: How to keep your
resume, ATS-friendly.

What is an ATS?
An applicant tracking system - or ATS, for short - is a type of resume scanning software used by recruiters and employers during the hiring process to collect, sort, scan, and rank the job applications they receive for their open positions.

This could be one reason why you might not be getting a call back. You didnt make the cut because your resume did not pass the ATS test.

Prompt: Review and edit my current resume, focusing on enhancing the clarity and impact of my experience in [Industry/Field]. Strengthen the language to better showcase my achievements, particularly in [Specific Roles or Projects], and ensure the layout is ATS-friendly. Adjust the skills section better to reflect the requirements of [Job Title].
